Samsung outs super-fast 3,000MB/s enterprise SSD

Electronics giant Samsung has announced the world's first 2.5-inch NVM Express (NVMe) XS1715 PCIe solid state drive (SSD) aimed squarely at enterprise users.
According to the press release, the 1.6TB NVMe SSD can hit sequential read speed of 3,000MB/s. This speed, according to Samsung, allows it to process 500GB of data, "equivalent to 100 Full HD movies 5GB in length," in less than 3 seconds.
Random read speeds are also very impressive, hitting up to 740,000 IOPS, which is over 10 times faster than existing high-end SSD storage options.
"When compared to other products with similar specifications," said Samsung, "this new SSD is 14 times faster than a high-end enterprise HDD for server use, and six times faster than Samsung's former high-end enterprise SSD storage."
The NVMe SSD XS1715 comes in 400GB, 800GB and 1.6TB versions.

Also outed was the 840 EVO, which Samsung says uses the "most compact" 10nm 128GB high-performance NAND available. The 840 EVO will be available in 120GB, 250GB, 500GB, 750GB, and 1TB capacities and has a sequential write speed is 410MB/s, can hit 98,000 IOPS. This doesn't come close to the XS1715, but it is still a very capable SSD.

"After accelerating the growth of the SSD market by last year’s launch of entry-level, high-performance SSDs we are introducing a much faster SSDs with up to 1TB capacities offering consumers a wider range of choices," said Samsung's Executive VP of Memory Sales and Marketing, Young-Hyun Jun.
"Samsung continues to enhance its SSD brand image by delivering the industry’s highest quality solutions and continuously increasing its SSD market share by expanding the adoption of higher density SSDs especially in client PC segments."
As yet, Samsung hasn't unveiled pricing for either drive.
